Last week, Zach Galifianakis rebooted his popular Funny or Die talk show Between Two Ferns, and within hours, it became the most viewed episode. With Hillary Clinton as his guest, and with her perfect deadpan humor, many wondered if Galifianakis would have Donald Trump on, too. Well, apparently that's a whole lot of not happening.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the actor gave specific reasons why he refuses to deal with Trump.
“No. That doesn’t interest me. Doing it the other way doesn’t interest me,” he said. “He’s the kind of guy who likes attention—bad attention or good attention. So you’re dealing with a psychosis there that’s a little weird. I wouldn’t have somebody on that’s so mentally challenged. I feel like I’d be taking advantage of him. And you can print that.”
According to the show's director, Ben Aukerman, Clinton was the one who reached out to do the show, and much of it was improvised.
“A lot of times with Between Two Ferns, if it’s someone in entertainment, their publicist will reach out,” Aukerman said. “Or in the case of Obama, the White House reached out, and you never quite know if the person knows that their people are reaching out about it. But in this case, Mrs. Clinton is the one who reached out about doing it, as she was a big fan of the Obama one.”
Just in case you need a refresher, here's President Barack Obama's appearance, and it's still hilarious years later:
