Not everyone was feeling Zac Efron’s new “just for fun” dreadlock hairstyle when he posted a new Instagram photo on Friday. The black and white photo shows Efron sporting some type of pointy, thin and rolled hairstyle, or as I like to refer to them as “wypipolocs.”
Some of the commenters stated that Efron was being a cultural appropriator with comments like, “My lifestyle is not something you steal and pick up just for fun.”
Another person wrote, “You have been afforded so much privilege and world experience that should also inform you that dreadlocks on white people is cultural appropriation.”
But, of course, there were the Efron wypipoloc apologists who used the age-old saying that black people are always straightening or dyeing their hair blond, as if those two features were synonymous with white people, but whatever
In any event, if you’re going to try to rock locs as a white person, at least make those things look half decent and try to use something better than Dippity Doo.
