Here’s another opportunity to brush off that Rhythm Nation choreo you practiced in your bedroom. Janet Jackson, the original queen of leveling up, will be gracing our TV screens soon to receive the Phenomenal Woman in Music award at Black Girls Rock.
The annual show will be hosted by Queen Latifah this Sunday, and BET will broadcast the event on Sept. 9. As U.S. News and World Report writes, other honorees will include R&B legend Mary J. Blige, who will receive the Star Power award; model Naomi Campbell, receiving the Black Girl Magic award; and dancer and choreographer Judith Jamison, who will be honored with the Living Legend award for her work.
Previously, Janet Jackson (aka your #WCW since 1986) has won the MTV Video Vanguard award (1990), an honor she shares with her brother, Michael. Janet has also racked up a bunch of Grammy hardware for her songs and videos and recently was separately honored by BET and Billboard, receiving “Icon” awards from both.
