On Aug. 22 in New York City, The Root brought together author and advice columnist Demetria L. Lucas, contributing editor to The Root; Black Girls Rock! founder Beverly Bond; radio host and environmental advocate Majora Carter; architect Pamela O. Abalu; and Tamron Hall, NBC News correspondent and host of MSNBC’s NewsNation, for a candid and humor-filled discussion on the state of the young, black professional female at our latest Young, Fabulous and Female event.

The event featured poignant discussions, such as black female competition in the workplace, the search for career inspiration and how to seek out the perfect mentor.

“You may not look around your office and see five other African-American women,” Hall said. “But there are women all around this country who have the same questions you have — and that fiber, that is somewhat invisible, connects us all.”
