At a Trump rally in Florida on Tuesday, there was one particular guest who stood out from the crowd.
The answer: Azaelia Banks. Alleging that she was invited by Trump to attend (“Trump invited the gang” were her exact words), Banks’ presence was soon plastered all over the internet thanks to footage from the 45th president’s own Instagram recapping the event and multiple videos online. Once circulated, she drew both ire and jokes from fans.
In particular, many were calling out Banks’ hypocrisy on X/Twitter, citing the fact that just a few weeks ago toward the end of Pride Month, she sang at a Queer Bait performance in San Francisco (Trump and the LGBTQ+ community have notoriously been at odds.) Prior to that, she called the behavior of those who stormed the Capitol during the insurrection on January 6 “meth behavior.”
Now, with her showing up in support of Trump, many are expressing their disappointment and calling her out once again:
“This is not a flex this is genuinely disturbing,” one user wrote on X/Twitter.
“Directly engaging with Azealia Banks is a moral failing at this point. She stands for nothing. She’s a reactionary pseudo-intellectual who says bigoted shit to spark a reaction and keep the dying embers of her career burning. Attention is her only currency. Ignore her,” said another.
“She had showed her true colors over and over but some yall keep hyping her as a funny or she so real or cunty… no she is not she is a transphobic horrible person yall need to stop inviting her to perform at pride stuff,” another user said.
Others joked that she may have only been there as a paid guest to pay back $8,000 in back rent she allegedly owes. She recently addressed the online rumors just a few days before this rally took place.
“It’s a lie, it’s a lie. I’ve always paid my rent. I got the text. Like come on. Really? $8,000? I mean, I’m not a gazillionaire but surely Azealia Banks has $8,000 fucking dollars, please,” she said in a since-expired post to her Instagram stories.
