Fun fact: Anywhere one or more athletes are gathered, major fashion moments are bound to follow. That’s why, despite marginal interest in “the sports” (unless it’s a playoff, the Olympics or Serena’s involved) we’re always interested in the ESPYs red carpet. As some of the sports world’s finest assemble to celebrate their own, they also take the opportunity to show out, and while The Root’s Jay Connor was on site to cover the event itself, our eyes were on the step-and-repeat, to see all the slam dunks, home runs and grand slams upon arrival...not to mention the strikeouts.
One of our favorite couples almost always gets it right; Gabrielle Union and the recently retired Dwyane Wade continued their perpetually fly-yet-fun streak, using date night to give us couples’ style with a twist. Specifically, that twist came in the form of the bedazzled Judith Leiber cocktail purse Union wore with her beaded, bodycon minidress by Raisa Vanessa and Jimmy Choos. And because what’s good for the goose is also good for the gander, Wade was the ultimate accessory in an off-white Louis Vuitton suit with a wraparound sash in place of a shirt, designed, of course, by Off-White designer (and head of LV menswear) Virgil Abloh.

I mean, we hesitate to call anything #couplegoals, but these two definitely look the part.

Of course, Wade and Union weren’t the only well-coordinated pair on the ESPYs carpet, just our hands-down faves. You can check out all the rest of the best (and most questionable) looks below in our slideshow.
