XXXTentacion has been laid to rest after being brutally gunned down in Deerfield Beach, Fla., on June 18. After a private funeral on Thursday, his mother, Cleopatra Bernard, shared a photo on her Instagram account of the monument erected for the controversial rapper at his burial site.
“My guardian angel,” Bernard wrote as the caption. The mausoleum bears XXXTentacion’s name prominently across the top, along with his real name, Jahseh D. Onfroy. The grey and black monument is flanked by red, black and silver flowers.
According to TMZ, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, and Erykah Badu attended the private ceremony for the rapper on Thursday. The same day, a video for his hit song, “Sad!” was released; in it, X is seen attending his own funeral. The song hit no. 1 on the Billboard hot 100 this week.
Earlier in the week, thousands of X’s fans showed up for an open-casket memorial at the BB&T center in Sunrise, Fla.
Bernard also implied that XXXTentacion may have a child on the way in another recent Instagram post. “He left us a final gift,” wrote Bernard, under a photo of an ultrasound.
The 20-year-old rapper wrote up a will in November 2017 that didn’t name any children, leaving everything to his mother and two brothers, TMZ reports.
At the time of his death, XXXTentacion was embroiled in controversy over multiple allegations of domestic assault, including brutally beating his then-pregnant ex-girlfriend, Geneva Ayala. Continuing a pattern of alleged harassment, XXXTentacion’s fans ran Ayala out of a candle-light vigil for the rapper earlier this month and burned the offerings and flowers she had left for him, she said on Instagram.
One person has been arrested in XXXTentacion’s murder, with police searching for another person of interest.
