Wyclef Jean was in the wrong place at the wrong time and wearing a bandanna that was the wrong color when Los Angeles County deputies pulled him over in a case of mistaken identity early Tuesday morning.
Jean, the founding member of the Fugees, posted his encounter with the deputies to his Twitter:
According to reports, the county deputies were searching for a black man, armed with a gun and wearing a red bandanna, who allegedly robbed a gas station just after 1 a.m. near Sunset and North San Vicente boulevards, according to a L.A. County sergeant.
Shortly after police received the robbery call, the sergeant said, Jean was pulled over because he matched the description because ... well ... he’s black and had on a red bandanna.
“Y’all see the police have handcuffs on me. They just took off my Haitian bandanna. That’s what’s going on right now with Wyclef and L.A. right now. The LAPD have me in cuffs for absolutely nothing,” Jean said in the video.
Jean now says he plans on suing the Los Angeles Police Department.
