As the divorce proceedings between Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert continue to play out, this latest update is arguably the most eyebrow-raising of them all.
In Taylor’s latest court response, the “Bare With Me” singer is alleging that the NBA superstar “consistently fails to properly care for the minor children.” According to PEOPLE, she cited that he allegedly failed to “feed them despite being in the [marital residence] with the minor children.”
She also claimed that Shumpert is smoking marijuana and under the influence while taking care of their two daughters, 7-year old Iman “Junie” Tayla and 3-year-old Rue Rose.
Perhaps more upsetting, Taylor described an incident in which Shumpert allegedly put the two children in a rideshare in Chicago, where they were allegedly dropped off in the general population area at the United Center—as he was transported there by a private driver.
As previously reported by The Root, Shumpert was granted temporary set custody time with the girls. Per the agreement, the court decided that Shumpert will have their children four to six days out of the month and will be required to pick them up and drop them back off at Taylor’s residence. The “A Thousand and One” actress has primary custody and will keep it until a new agreement has been decided in accordance with their divorce finalization.
The couple was together for 10 years, married for seven and shocked the world when they announced the news of their separation in September 2023. They had both previously insisted on handling their divorce “amicably” and “privately,” “keeping the best interests of the children of paramount concern.”
