The New York Daily News is reporting that an upstate New York woman drove her minivan into the Hudson River on Tuesday, killing herself and her three young children, according to reports. At around 8 p.m., the woman let her 10-year-old son out of the van on a dock before speeding into the water. Trapped inside the van were her two sons, ages 2 and 5, and her 11-month-old daughter, the officials said.
The boy who got away ran to a nearby fire station and told firefighters what his mother had done, the paper reported. The police had just responded to a domestic dispute involving the woman, but no one was at home.
The Web is buzzing with speculation that this woman may have suffered from postpartum depression or may have been driven to do this in an attempt to escape a horrible domestic situation. Whatever the case, it is a truly tragic story for all involved, especially the 10-year-old boy, who has to live with this memory for the rest of his life.
