The rest of the world may be losing their minds over Jada Pinkett Smith’s shocking news about her marriage to Will Smith, but the Oscar winner is not only unbothered by the controversy, he’s nothing but supportive of his “best friend.”

According to the Baltimore Sun, the King Richard star made a surprise appearance at Jada’s book tour stop in Baltimore on Wednesday. Will told the guests, “I just really wanted to come out and just be here and hold it down for you the way you have held it down for me.”

Since the Red Table Talk host started her book tour, everyone and their mother has offered opinions on the couple’s relationship. However, Will describes their “very long and tumultuous” marriage as “brutiful.”

“It was brutal and beautiful at the same time,” he said.

The rapper/actor went on to celebrate the Girls Trip star for having his back all these years, acknowledging how his success is “largely built on the foundation of Jada’s sacrifices.”

“As I stand here before you today, I am happier than I’ve ever been in my entire life,” he said. “I have achieved every single thing I have ever wanted in my entire life. There is not one thing left that I desire in this world—all of the awards, all of the money, the family—everything I’ve ever dreamed.”

He added: “Jada is the best friend I have ever had on this planet and I am going to show up for her and support her for the rest of my life.”

For her part, Jada has explained in several interviews how the infamous Oscars slap brought them closer together, and encouraged them to begin working on their relationship again.

No matter how you feel about Will and Jada, or their current media blitz, you have to admit, their unconditional love for the family they’ve built is beautiful. Recognizing that they still have love, support and admiration for one another, and deciding to be each other’s ride or die is refreshingly adult. Perhaps it’s time the rest of us adjust our idea of what a healthy, honest relationship really is.
