Just days before Grant Ellis, the newest face of “The Bachelor” franchise is set to embark on his journey to find love, he’s making it clear exactly what he’s looking for in a wife and future partner. But folks on social media have plenty to say about what he ought to be looking for instead.
Speaking in a new interview with PEOPLE, Ellis got candid on the character traits that would immediately turn him off: chief among them being a woman who is immature and engages in petty behavior.
“It’s really easy for somebody to tell you what they want, but I think that actions speak louder than words,” Ellis said on Friday. “I think that there’s a certain maturity level that comes with wanting a family and wanting a long-lasting relationship, so I think that maturity was something that I looked for in these women. And if they’re starting drama, or if they’re gossiping, or if they’re doing certain things, that just indicates a lack of maturity.”
But While Grant may be focusing on the inner qualities, many online are just praying and hoping that he chooses to give the final rose (and ring) to an eligible Black woman at the end of the day. And I can’t blame them! Since the “Bachelor’s” inception, there hasn’t been one monoracial Black couple, which makes sense considering the show just gave viewers the first Black “Bachelorette” and “Bachelor” in 2017 and 2021, respectively.
Be that as it may, it’s not stopping Black women viewers from rooting for Ellis to find Black love when things are all said and done.
“Pleaseeeeeee choose a melanated queeeen. But obviously choose who’s best for you but yeah,” wrote one user in the comment section of “The Bachelor’s” post introducing Ellis as this season’s choice.
Added another, “Brother please, we want you to pick a Wife, a Black wife. You will be the First Black man to do so in this show. Don’t let us down. Please [and] thank you, the internet Aunties!”
Others, however, weren’t too convinced.
“I already know who he’s going to pick...Becky with the good hair,” said one user.
“Hopefully we’ll see Black love be endgame this time but it might just be another Matt situation. He seem mixed. But I’m not gonna get my hopes up,” another expressed.
The new season of “The Bachelor” premieres Jan. 27 on ABC and streaming the next day on Hulu.
