The donation will help support female filmmakers and other student television projects.

“Will and Jada Smith have a strong desire and commitment to the education of tomorrow’s storytellers, and we’re thrilled that they have decided to support some of our standout students and programs,” said Joe Pichirallo, chair of NYU’s undergraduate film and TV department in its Tisch School of the Arts.

Of the donation, $20,000 will go toward two pilots created by students, while the remaining funds have been donated to the Fusion Film Festival, a student-run film festival.
