Wikileaks founder Julian Assange warned in a recent interview with Russia Today that Facebook is the “most appalling spy machine that has ever been invented.”

TNW reports that he explained, “Here we have the world’s most comprehensive database about people, their relationships, their names, their addresses, their locations, their communications with each other, and their relatives, all sitting within the United States, all accessible to U.S. Intelligence.”
And it doesn’t stop there. Assange believes that Google, Yahoo! and other major U.S. companies actually have what he calls “built-in interfaces for U.S. Intelligence.”
In the interview, he went on to warn Facebook users that by adding friends, they are “doing free work for U.S. intelligence agencies in building this electronic database for them.”
This sounds pretty serious. It’s enough to make us delete our accounts … OK, maybe just tighten up our privacy settings. With everything Assange said, he failed to mention one of the scariest aspects of social networking sites: They’re completely addictive.
