If there’s one thing Lizzo knows how to do, it’s make fun of herself. Over the weekend, as many across the country took the time to celebrate Halloween early, Lizzo joined the myriad of celebrities to show off her costume on social media...and it may be the best one we have seen yet.
On Saturday, the Grammy winner shared multiple posts on social media dressed up in a drug box that reads, “Lizzo.” In one post, it looks like a full-fledged advertisement, with a statement that reads, “Need self-love? Try Lizzo! Lose guilt. Gain confidence” and warnings in fine print that read, “Side effects include: A smile on your face and a pep in your step.”
Take a look below:
Even if you’re not aware of where this reference comes from, it’s not hard to figure out that the “Truth Hurts” singer is dressing up as a knockoff version of the diet-suppressing drug Ozempic.
The box she’s in says, “FDA Approved,” and she’s even using measuring tape as a belt. If you scroll through her other posts on Instagram, you can see that she got the inspiration from the long-running Comedy Central show, “South Park.”
This reference came from a television special released in May, “South Park: The End of Obesity.” In this episode, the kids find themselves fighting a losing battle against the country’s troubled healthcare system as they try to get Eric Cartman access to weight loss drugs.
Amid the episode’s journey through the health insurance maze, Eric’s doctor prescribes the Ozempic alternative, titled “Lizzo.” Watch her initial reaction to the episode below:
This episode was inspired by the rumors that the “Special” singer has only started to lose weight because she’s on Ozempic. While those rumors have never been confirmed by the woman herself, many fans and detractors have continued to run with it.
