I don’t understand the resilience of Kodak Black.

While he isn’t nearly as popular as he was five years ago, he’s still afforded multiple opportunities to stand next to some of the most successful and talented people in the music industry.

Black, who was just arrested on charges of cocaine possession, recently appeared at the listening party for “Vultures,” the collaborative effort from Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign.

A year ago, he was featured multiple times on “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers,” the latest studio album from Kendrick Lamar.

This is despite the fact that he’s been arrested multiple times in the last eight years on charges of kidnapping, battery, sexual battery, weapons possession, armed robbery, false imprisonment, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and sexual assault.

So why is he still followed by millions of fans and allowed to thrive in the industry? Is it his talent? Is it his personality? Is it because of his popularity? I don’t exactly have the answer (considering I don’t find him that talented or entertaining), but this is a man who continues to be given chances in a way that he does not deserve.

Some may argue that mentioning his arrests is unfair since he only served serious prison time once — for falsifying documents that he used to buy weapons at a Miami gun store. Why use that against him, you ask?

Alright, what about the time in 2017 when he stated that he “don’t really like Black girls like that” when he was asked about the type of women with whom he prefers to have relationships?

He later stated, “My complexion we too gutter. Light-skinned women are more sensitive…we can break them down more easy,” according to BBC.

It’s one thing to have a preference, it’s another thing to disrespect all Black women in the process.

He later doubled down on his stance against dark-skinned women: “You talking about black women. B**h, f**k ya! I only like redbones. I love black African Americans, but I don’t like black b****s. ... I like yellow hos.”

This is the man people want to support and stand next to?! Nah, that ain’t it.

I can already hear the people who disagree with this take. “Why don’t you have this energy for Kanye West?!” Trust me, I do. His bigoted, disrespectful and ignorant behavior does not deserve to be rewarded.

So let’s not do the same for a convicted criminal who has said just as many ignorant things as Kanye West.
