Whoopi Goldberg and the cohosts of “The View” have weighed in on the Janet Jackson of it all, breaking down Jackson’s controversial controversial comments from The Guardian that she “heard” that Vice President Kamala Harris was “not Black.”

While Goldberg offered grace for Jackson at the top of the segment, her other cohosts were not as forgiving, specifically Ana Navarro. She said in the Hot Topics segment that while Jackson has the right to endorse anyone she wants, she still spread “misinformation” about Harris.

“I think it’s very irresponsible when you have a platform the way Janet Jackson does, to use that platform carelessly, to spread misinformation based on a racist allegation by Donald Trump,” she explained. Goldberg allowed for more room for error with Jackson, saying that “sometimes people get it wrong and they’re wrong! They made a mistake, they were wrong. It happens.”

The EGOT winner added, “Anybody who says it doesn’t happen to every one of us, multiracial or not, we all do it. So okay, a little grace for the girl. A little grace for the girl.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin, as a biracial woman herself, spoke to her experience while stating that it is “unfortunate” that Jackson made those comments out of “misinformation” or possibly “lack of information.”

Janet Jackson Falsely Said Kamala Harris Is ‘Not Black’ | The View

As The Root previously reported, Jackson’s comments took the internet by storm when they landed over the weekend. In the interview with The Guardian, Jackson echoed a popular right wing conspiracy theory that Harris is not Black. “Her father’s white,” she said in the interview. “That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days.”

While an apology was sent to outlets on Sunday from Mo Elmasri, who claimed to be Jackson’s rep, the statement has since been confirmed as not affiliated with Jackson.
