If there’s one person that deserves to tip up their cup and throw their hands up—it’s singer Montell Jordan due to the surprising health obstacle he recently revealed he’d overcome.
In a new interview with TMZ on Tuesday, the “This Is How We Do It” singer shared a welcomed update on how he’s doing after battling early stage 1 prostate cancer for most of the year. If this news comes as a shock to you, then you wouldn’t be alone as the popular singer just publicized the news in a video to Instagram on his 56th birthday on Dec. 3. In it, Jordan explained through flashcards that he received the unfortunate diagnosis back in Jan.2024. He went on to describe how he documented the entire journey to getting himself back into better health and spent a lot of time and effort researching the best options for treatment. He ultimately decided on surgery and on Nov. 5, he had his prostate removed.
Unfortunately, Jordan was then hit with another twist as “more aggressive,” stage 2 cancerous cells were found after the removal which led to doctors having to go in and remove those as well.
“Early detection helped save my life,” he wrote on one card. “My wife, my kids, my close family and friends have all been my tribe. Our church. I have an amazing community. I learned I can do hard things. I cannot do hard things alone.”
Jordan, who is an ordained minster and preacher, went on to to say: “Jesus saved my soul. Early detection helped save my life.”
Jump to Tuesday and the “What’s On Tonight” singer told the outlet that he’s feeling great now that he’s been in recovery from his prostatectomy for about six weeks. He further stressed the importance of folks getting their regular health screenings and revealed he’s still working on the aforementioned documentary that will detail his journey as well as others whom he’s pastoring that are dealing with cancer as well.
“I’m a blessed man, I’m a blessed man. So I’m gon’ live well, love well and hopefully if I can pass this onto somebody else: early detection. It’s a big deal,” Jordan said.
