Fresh from our "Boomerang" file, white supremacist David Duke is considering a run for president of the United States in 2012. It seems that the self-proclaimed "white civil rights activist" has decided to tour the United States to see if he can drum up enough support for a serious campaign.

According to the Daily Beast, his tour will consist of stops in 25 states. The Daily Beast's Eva Conant reports that a startling number of "white power" candidates are emerging in political races, and David Duke is one of them.

Former (and current) neo-Nazis, Ku Klux Klan members, neo-Confederates and other representatives of the many wings of the “white nationalist” movement are starting to file paperwork and print campaign literature for offices large and small, pointing to rising unemployment, four years with an African-American president and rampant illegal immigration as part of a growing mound of evidence that white people need to take a stand.

With so many covert white supremacists masquerading as politicians, it was only a matter of time before overt white supremacists would throw their hats into the ring. For the record, white supremacists and politics is nothing new in this country — in fact, at one point, it was the status quo.

Since the racial climate of this country has given way to old habits, it stands to reason that "white civil rights advocates" like David Duke would resurface. The correlation between President Obama's historic election and the explosion of white supremacy speaks volumes about where we are as a nation on race relations — nowhere.
