I know what you’re thinking: What in the world had to have happened for these three totally different MCs to get involved in a situation together? Let me explain.

Last week, J. Cole appeared on Lil Yachty’s popular new podcast, A Safe Place Podcast, and had an open conversation about a plethora of topics, primarily how he’s grown as an artist and a music lover.

At one point he says, “Around the time Soulja Boy came out, I don’t know how this happened but, I had a realization within myself ’cause I’m hearing that shit and I’m like ‘Man this shit, Soulja Boy tell em’.”

He continued, “Sounds crazy to say now ’cause it’s such a classic to me. But at that time I had resistance. Similar to when you came out and your class came out, I had resistance. ‘Nah that’s not the thing that I love. Like what? Y’all fucking with this?’ I was one of them. But there was a part of me that had a realization. I was proud of myself for this realization. So I was like ‘Bruh, you a hater. Like, yo you are literally hating. You know you like this shit.’”

During the episode, it was clear that Cole realized the error of his ways and decided to show more love to a different style of rappers (Soulja Boy, Lil Yachty, etc).

But the “Crank That” rapper did not take it that way. In tweets that have since been deleted, he wrote, “Niggaz always hated on me nothing new. Him and big sean was on some hating shit. But fuck them im still lit.”

In a separate post, he said, “Aye bruh don’t speak on me @JColeNC I’m not lil pump, drake, or none of these rapper niggaz. On God.”

But on Monday, thanks to the assistance of Nicki Minaj, the “Kiss Me Thru the Phone” artist walked back his comments and realized that he got a little too ahead of himself.

Nicki and Soulja went on Instagram Live hours later where she again attempted to reiterate her point that the “First Person Shooter” rapper was taking no shots.

During the live, Nicki said, “He said that he had to keep it real with himself and admit that people like you are what was really keeping the wave going and really keeping the energy.”

She continued, “And he didn’t really wanna say that to certain people or admit that. He basically gave you props, Like, ‘Yo, people like you.’ So what the fuck was you on when you misinterpreted it and now you saying he’s doing the most again?”

Thankfully, Soulja Boy responded by saying he’d stop taking shots at J. Cole. Which is something all hip-hop fans should be happy about. A Cole/Soulja Boy is not something anyone could’ve predicted and should not be something anyone should’ve been rooting for.
