Roland Martin was Wendy Williams' biggest critic over comments she made last week about the NAACP and HBCUs after Jesse Williams' BET Awards speech. It seemed that Wendy Williams didn't understand why there was a need for HBCUs or the NAACP.
“On the other hand, I would be really offended if there was a school that was known as a historically white college. We have historically black colleges. What if there was the National Organization for White People only? There’s the NAACP,” Wendy Williams said.
Those comments riled up people on social media as well as talk show host Roland Martin. He blasted Williams on his TV One morning talk show.
“If you actually bothered to read a book and not gossip magazines, you might know these things. Wendy, let me help you out. When you’re on TV and have no idea what you’re talking about, shut the hell up. Don’t open your mouth. Don’t embarrass yourself. Because you sound silly,” said Martin.
Williams' comments probably cost her not only fans but also a major sponsor. Shortly after the comments were made, Chevy pulled out as sponsor of her talk show.
But now Williams seem to have had a change of heart. On Thursday she issued an apology and even had Martin on as a guest. Williams said she asked Martin to appear on the show so that he could educate everyone.
"First, I want to apologize," Williams said. "I want to apologize to everyone that I might have offended regarding my remarks. Apology. And I was wrong."
Martin then went on to explain why Williams was wrong:
So is Williams apologizing because she actually knows she's wrong? Or is she apologizing to get that sponsor money back?
