Vice President Kamala Harris may be vacating her role on Jan. 20, but that doesn’t mean she has to participate in every part of the political transition. CBS News has reported that Harris is refusing to fully accommodate her successor JD Vance — and it feels purposely petty.
Multiple Democratic and Republican sources told the outlet that Harris has not extended an invitation for a formal sit-down or tour of the Naval Observatory where Vance will soon reside. Vance, his wife Usha, and their three children will move into the mansion on Inauguration Day.
Last year, Usha reportedly reached out to Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff to see if the space needed to be childproofed. The couple’s kids, Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel, are all under the age of eight. Though the inquiries were originally rebuffed by a Harris political appointee, there has been communication between Vance’s team and Navy employees who are in charge of the residence.
After winning the election alongside President Joe Biden back in 2020, Harris didn’t move into the Naval Observatory residence until three months after being sworn in due to the house needing repairs. Harris never went to the Naval Observatory before assuming her position after Donald Trump tried to overturn the 2020 election amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
During the most recent election, Vance referred to Harris as “trash” during a November rally. Vance and Trump also consistently attacked Harris about her racial identity, insisting that she wasn’t really Black.
Earlier this month, folks questioned former President Barack Obama playing nice with Trump at the funeral for late former President Jimmy Carter. Obama’s wife and former First Lady, Michelle, was not in attendance for the service.
Furthermore, Michelle Obama is reportedly skipping Trump’s inauguration though Barack is planing to attend.
