On Thursday, John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions announced the renewal of the groundbreaking dance musical series, Pose. Said Landgraf in a statement:
Ryan Murphy has once again revolutionized television with Pose, an incredibly engaging story of creativity, courage, compassion, love and family at a pivotal time in our culture. As television critics have universally acknowledged, there is simply nothing like Pose on TV, so effortlessly excelling on every creative level and earning a place in television history for its infectiously inclusive spirit.
Co-created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals, Pose is set in the late-1980s, taking place at the intersection of seemingly disparate segments of society in New York City and merging the worlds of uptown ballroom culture, the hysteria of the AIDS crisis and the rise of Trump-era excess. The cast includes transgender actors Mj Rodriguez, Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore, Hailie Sahar and Angelica Ross, who co-star alongside Tony Award winner Billy Porter, veteran actress Charlayne Woodard, Murphy series veterans Evan Peters and Kate Mara, Dawson’s Creek alum James Van Der Beek, and newcomers Ryan Jamaal Swain, Dyllón Burnside and Angel Bismark Curiel.
Aside from casting a record-making number of transgender actors as series regulars—and the largest-ever recurring cast of LGBTQ actors for a scripted series—Pose made television history on July 8 when bestselling author Janet Mock, a writer and producer on the series, became the first trans woman of color to direct a television episode with the emotional Episode 6, “Love Is the Message.”
Pose airs on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. EDT and will end its first season on July 22. The second season of Pose will debut in 2019 on FX.
