Just when Drake thought he’d written the #GirlPower anthem of the season, here comes Janelle Monáe to remind us of the power of the ... pynk.
With “Pynk,” the latest single from her upcoming release, Dirty Computer (due out April 27), Monáe builds on the momentum of February’s “Make Me Feel” with another Prince-tinged melody about the power of sexual liberation. This time, we’re speaking specifically about #PussyPower.
In a mesmerizing series of vignettes that put a new spin on “summer loving,” Monáe—once again co-starring with close companion Tessa Thompson—takes her friends for a desert cruise in her pink Cadillac and finds nirvana in a rose-colored, Black Girl Magic-centric oasis. In the process, the songstress and actress gives us plenty of innuendo-loaded imagery and fashion moments: Think pink fur; vintage lingerie; “message” panties (with a nod to going au naturel); some very, very vaginal flamenco-style pants (issa look); and, of course, pretty much every shade of pink.
Then there’s the choreography: Once again, Monáe gives new meaning to a “workout,” taking “yoga” to orgasmic new levels. Not to mention the indelible image of Thompson and Monáe crawling toward each other across a sea of pulsating, underwear-clad asses ...
You know what? Just check it for yourself. And fellas, if you’re feeling left out, don’t. In the immortal words of Ms. Monáe: “If you got blue, we got the pynk.”
