Watch out for Watchmen, because time is tickin’. Specifically, watch out for Regina (who has BEEN) King.
HBO’s description of the upcoming series is as follows:
Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, this drama series… embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name while attempting to break new ground of its own.
The cable network recently dropped a teaser trailer for the upcoming series featuring a mob chanting in what looks to be an apocalyptic world. And then there is Regina King.
Along with the teaser trailer, HBO also dropped a first-look image featuring King looking like a locked character that everybody wants on Mortal Kombat.
The series is based on the superhero graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, which was published by DC Comics in 1986 and 1987.
“We have no desire to ‘adapt’ the twelve issues Mr. Moore and Mr. Gibbons created thirty years ago,” series executive producer David Lindelof wrote in a letter to the fans on his Instagram page last year. “Those issues are sacred ground and they will not be retread nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted. They will, however, be remixed.” Lindelof actually turned down the offer to adapt the graphic novel into a series twice before deciding to move forward.
Joining King in the cast lineup is Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Louis Gossett Jr., Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk.
Watchmen will be coming to HBO in Fall 2019. Tick-Tock.
