One of the most difficult elements of splitting up is co-parenting and keeping the positive aspects of the relationship alive for the children. This is one of the issues Tia Mowry deals with in her new WEtv reality series, “Tia Mowry: My Next Act.”

As previously reported by The Root, Mowry split from ex-husband, Cory Hardrict, in 2022. In the latest episode of the series, the actress struggles with what to do with her wedding ring. While some people simply sell it, or donate it, the “Sister, Sister” star wanted to do something special with her ring.

“I haven’t worn it for almost two years now, and it just doesn’t feel right to sell it,” she said. “But what I am wanting to do is change my wedding band into something for my kids. Pass it down, you know, to my kids, because they have been my biggest gift.”

As the jeweler appraises the ring, Tia emotionally recalls Cory’s romantic Christmas Day 2006 proposal, which happened in front of her entire family. It’s clear this is a difficult decision for Tia, but she thinks her ex will be OK with the kids having family heirlooms.

“It’s hard for me to not think about Cory when I am deciding to repurpose my wedding band because he is the one who gave me my wedding ring,” Mowry said. “I was so surprised. So it’s very hard for me not to think about what he would think. But I am learning that, at the end of the day, I need to make this decision for me. And I think because it’s going to the kids, he’ll be okay.”

“I just think it’s so beautiful to transform something that was given out of love and to give it to your children. It just makes me feel like my marriage wasn’t a waste,” she said. “I did the right thing.”

“Tia Mowry: My Next Act” airs Fridays at 8 p.m. on WEtv and is available to stream on ALLBLK.
