First lady Michelle Obama stopped by The Tonight Show With Jay Leno last night and chatted with the host about the recent Harlem fundraiser at which the president sang a few bars of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together."
"He does have a beautiful voice … he sings to me all the time," she said. "He doesn't hesitate to show off."
She also had the pitch-perfect response to Leno's question about her take on Mitt Romney's rendition of "America the Beautiful" — a query that seemed like the perfect setup for an "angry black woman" sound bite. "It's … beautiful," she said, balancing the very generous compliment with a facial expression that let us know she heard the same performance we did. "It's America's song, and it's a song that's meant to be sung by every American."
