Promoting her first book, American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America, first lady Michelle Obama appeared on Good Morning America Tuesday morning to talk to Robin Roberts about how the project fits in with her passion for encouraging kids to eat healthy, as well as helping families make good choices about eating and staying active. The book, released Tuesday, includes a large number of garden-oriented photos and recipes. "It turned out exactly as I envisioned," she told Roberts.

In American Grown, Obama writes that she knew very little about gardening when she first moved into the White House but was determined that her garden would "be the starting point for something bigger." All the proceeds from the book benefit the National Park Foundation.

Obama also talked about her trip to Beyoncé's concert this weekend and praised the singer for her contributions to the Let's Move! initiative. "Beyoncé stepped up in a way that so many of our celebrities and athletes are stepping up on the issue," she said.
