Sexyy Red was arrested at Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday following a “brawl” between her and her people and another group.
According to surveillance footage obtained by TMZ, the rapper’s crew and the opposing group were already going at it at the airport gate before Red even entered the frame. While the footage shows that Red — birth name Janae Nierah Wherry — did not technically make contact with anyone during the brawl, she is seen picking up “a stand on the ground and waving it around as if she was ready to use it on someone.”
Despite being right in the mix of the fight for a certain amount of time, at one point Red was pulled away from the chaos of the fight.
Security is seen trying to break up the fight in the footage. Ultimately, the police showed up and arrested multiple people. Red was arrested for disorderly conduct while some others were “booked on assault charges.” Alleged victims of the fight were sent to the hospital for minor injuries.
As TMZ pointed out, Red took to social media later on to address the situation after getting out. Speaking directly to the camera, she says in the clip, “Good morning...I just got out.” She then shared a post for the people who were “in the altercation” at the airport, writing, “To the people that was in that altercation at the airport please dm me so I can replace yo phone !!”
The “Pound Town” rapper is currently touring around the country and globe. She recently played New York City’s 2024 Governors Ball Music Festival, and is set to perform in New Orleans, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. later this month.
