Hazel Monét, daughter of R&B artist Victoria Monét, has become the youngest Grammy nominee in history.

Hazel was born on Feb. 21, 2021, making her only two years old when nominations went out on Nov. 10, 2023. The toddler is nominated for Best Traditional R&B Performance for her mother’s song “Hollywood,” which also features the iconic group Earth, Wind & Fire.

Beyoncé’s oldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, became the youngest Grammy winner (not in a group) for Best Music Video in 2021. If Hazel, wins she’ll be the youngest winner in any Grammy category.

If you’re not already familiar with Hazel, you may want to get there because many would her consider a genius. Monét and her boyfriend, John Gaines, have been sharing videos on their social media of Hazel’s musical talents, humming and singing her favorite tunes, “Baby Shark” and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”

After the nominations were released, Monét posted a video of the tiny Grammy nominee, asking her to sing some of her single, “On My Mama.” At first, she instead started to sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” but a few seconds later combined the lyrics of “On My Mama” to the tune of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” with perfect pitch. Now that’s a producer and writer in the making!

In another video recorded by her father, Hazel nonchalantly repeats the phrase “Grammy-nominated, see you at the Grammys!” while attempting to write her name on a piece of paper. Her father says in the background that she’s preparing her autograph.

The upcoming Grammys will be been huge for Monét, as she received seven nominations — the second highest this year. Though she has been in the music industry for almost a decade, this is her first time receiving prestigious recognition for her own music, not just the hits that she writes for other artists. With SZA leading with a whopping nine nominations for the 2024 award show, this show is bound to be filled with all the Black girl magic!
