Lena Waithe Brings the Heat in Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One"

If you haven’t already, I highly recommend you go see Ready Player One.

The Steven Spielberg sci-fi adventure opened in theaters on March 23 and stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn and my personal favorite, Lena Waithe.

The film is full of ’80s pop-culture references and is a perfect homage to video gamer culture. As a gamer myself, I saw so many things I could relate to in the film, and they all made it that much more enjoyable.

The storyline of the film moves along like the story mode of any of your favorite video games—sometimes fast, sometimes slow, but incredibly satisfying when you make it to the end.

Much like us in the present, the people in the future year 2045 escape from the miserable reality of their everyday lives by spending time in a video game world called the OASIS, where they can be anyone they want to be and do anything they want to do.

They know each other only by they gamer avatars, which means that the person you’re playing with may not be who you think they are.

Which brings me to Lena Waithe. Her character reveal was the best of all, and I recently had a chance to sit down with her to talk about her role in the movie, inclusivity in Hollywood, her current glow up and what she sees for the future.

Waithe is as dynamic in person as she is on-screen. It was an honor to get to speak with her, and I have no doubt that she will continue to be one of the greats in Hollywood.
