You can always expect the unexpected at political rallies these days. Although Harris-Walz rallies tend to be on the calmer side of things, every now and again, Vice President Kamala Harris’ rally playbook gets interrupted with a surprising— and sometimes hilarious— moment.
During the La Crosse, Wis. rally (Oct. 17), hecklers interrupted Harris as she spoke about the fight for reproductive rights ahead of election day. In the middle of mentioning former President Donald Trump “handpicking” three U.S. Supreme Court Justices, which led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, hecklers began shouting over her. It’s hard to hear exactly what they said, but regardless, Harris had no issue shutting them down.
“Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally,” she said as the rally crowd of thousands laughed and roared. Harris smiled and began waving at the hecklers, which was a subtle but zinging touch. If that wasn’t enough of a perfect comeback, Harris had an even wittier jab up her sleeve.
She continued saying “No, I think you meant to go to the smaller one down the street,” to which point the crowd erupted in cheers. If you don’t remember, Trump has an apparent obsession with rally crowd sizes. He’s stated in the past his crowds have been bigger than that of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream Speech” during the March on Washington, which is demonstrably untrue.
Former President Barack Obama mocked Trump’s clearly delusional claim during the 2024 Democratic National Convention, and now, Harris poked fun at what’s become a running joke for the Democratic party.
With less than 20 days until the 47th president is decided, both the Harris-Walz campaign and the Trump-Vance campaign are making their final rounds across the country, leading up to Election Day on Nov. 5.
