With Sunday’s unexpected release of their Bonnie and Clyde-style short film, Run, Jay Z and Beyoncé may have created enough distraction to slam shut the doors of elevator gate.
Besides the Carters, the stylish, four-minute film features a blockbuster cast, including Don Cheadle, Guillermo Diaz, Emmy Rossum, Blake Lively, Rashida Jones, Kidada Jones, Sean Penn and Jake Gyllenhaal.
But don’t look for the film, which features fast cars, explositions, money and gunfire, to appear in theaters anytime soon, according to Billboard.
Directed by Melina Matsoukas, (who directed Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts” from her Beyoncé visual album), the film is a promotional video for Jay Z and Beyoncé’s upcoming summer tour, On the Run, which begins on June 25 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
But even the Carters acknowledge that elevator gate may not go away immediately. In what Billboard describes as a nod to elevator gate, the couple “emerge from an elevator clad in balaclava masks with Jay Z holding a gun seemingly about to commit a crime.”
The site says the footage could be a sly reference to the leaked video of Solange attacking Jay Z in an elevator at the Standard Hotel. Is it a reference to the incident, yeah or nah? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
