It’s not everyday a Denzel Washington interview gets somewhat derailed by some surprise guests, but that’s exactly what happened during one of his press stops for his new film “Gladiator II” — and the identity of the guests will warm your heart.
Speaking with Washington in London over the weekend, “Good Day Chicago” anchor Jake Stakes shared a question asked by two fans with the veteran actor that inquired whether or not he did his own stunts. However, since the fans were not there in person, Stakes asked if he could play the video of them for Washington to see.
After he obliged, Washington instantly laughed when it was revealed that two “fans” were none other than his own two sons: John David Washington and Malcom Washington.
After calming down, the “American Gangster” star finally answered the question and shared that while he did a few stunts in “Gladiator II,” his days of doing all of that were over.
As the clip of the endearing moment began to circulate on social media, many folks online praised Stakes for his creativity and pulling off the surprise and Washington for being so endearing towards his sons.
“If I ever got a belly laugh out of Denzel Washington, no one would ever be able to tell me anything ever again,” wrote on user on Instagram.
“Love it! These ‘fan questions’ are awesome,” said another.
“Denzel is a national treasure,” another wrote.
“He put the phone down like “They about to get they ass whupped,” another joked.
The month of November is set to be a huge month for the iconic Hollywood family. They have two films set to release on the same day: the aforementioned “Gladiator II” and Netflix’s “The Piano Lesson.” The latter film will be directed by Malcolm, stars John David and is produced by their two-time Oscar winning father.
Both films will release Nov. 22.
