After a yearslong hiatus, R&B crooner D’Angelo returned to the limelight with a performance on Saturday Night Live yesterday, singing two singles from his 2014 CD release Black Messiah. It was his first performance on the late-night comedy show, reports Mediaite.
The performance comes a few weeks before the kickoff of his Second Coming Tour and nearly two months after the release of Black Messiah—the first in 14 years. As he performed “Really Love” and “The Charade,” his backup singers paid tribute to the ongoing protest movement against police violence in the black community, sporting BlackLivesMatter and “I Can’t Breathe” T-shirts.
