After an incident in which 50 Central Washington University students got sick from drinking Four Loko alcoholic beverages at a house party, Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna said that he wants the Food and Drug Administration to ban the drinks nationwide. Four Loko combines as much alcohol found in a six-pack of beer with as much caffeine in five cups of coffee. The university announced at a news conference today in Ellensburg, Wash., that the blood-alcohol content of students ranged from 0.12 percent to 0.335 percent. In Washington, 0.08 is the legal limit for intoxication. 0.3 can be lethal. Nine students were hospitalized after the Oct. 8 house party incident. They should just call this stuff "loco" because you'd have to be crazy to make it or drink it. By the way, who thought this drink was a good idea? Whatever the FDA decides, this incident proves that common sense isn't so common.
