Tracy Morgan recently celebrated a new beginning in his life after wedding longtime girlfriend Megan Wollover. But now someone else who’s had a huge impact on Morgan’s life wants to get his chance at starting over.
Morgan recently settled a lawsuit with Wal-Mart after an accident with a tractor trailer driven for the company left him severely injured and another passenger dead. Kevin Roper, the driver of the tractor trailer, now wants the criminal charges brought against him dropped.
According to ABC News, Roper filed for a dismissal of one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto, to all of which he has pleaded not guilty.
Roper said that he won't get a "fair trial" or "impartial jury" because of the "extensive national media coverage" surrounding the incident, NJ.com reports.
"Mr. Roper had a right to have his case decided by a jury, not a mob in the street fueled by media reports, innuendo and speculation," his attorney David Jay Glassman told ABC News.
The 35-year-old Roper stated that he had been behind the wheel driving for 28 hours straight before the accident occurred June 7, 2014.
Morgan is still on the road to recovery, with the comedian set to head back to the stage where he got his comedy career started. On Oct. 17, Morgan will host Saturday Night Live.
