A man and a woman walked into a Florida Wal-Mart, loaded up a shopping cart with cases of beer and walked out without paying for them. A manager spotted the couple in the parking lot putting the beer into the bed of a pickup truck, so he walked over and confronted them, WRDQ/WFTV Eyewitness News reports.
Mike Dawson, the store manager, asked them for "a receipt and they kept throwing beers into their car." They couple hopped in the truck and started to back up toward Dawson, and not wanting to get run over, he jumped on in.
The couple sped off with Dawson in the back of the pickup, WKMG Local 6 News reports.
The couple made two stops with Dawson on board. Dawson told WRDQ, "One time, they tried to beat me up, and I fought with them and lost my glasses. The second time was like in the back woods somewhere, I’m like, 'I’m not getting out for you to run me over.' "
Once the couple got back on a street, Dawson began tossing beer cans out of the truck to draw attention to the thieves.
Dave Stewart saw Dawson and got him out of the truck.
Stewart told WESH 2 News, "I'm not going to pass anybody that’s screaming, you know, for their life, for help. No matter what the circumstance is. I’m just that type of person, I am." Stewart showed his firearm to the suspects, and they took off, leaving Dawson behind.
Police say the unidentified suspects are still at large, and Wal-Mart has not given a statement regarding the incident.
