The Human Rights Campaign has released a video in support of marriage equality, starring entertainer Vanessa L. Williams. The video is part of the New Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign, which is centered on video testimonials from New Yorkers who support the right of gay and lesbian couples to marry. In the video, Williams, who currently stars on Desperate Housewives, proudly states, "I'm Vanessa Williams, a native New Yorker, and I support marriage equality."
HRC reports that a recent poll by New York-based Siena Research Institute shows that a strong majority (58 percent) of New Yorkers support marriage equality. This support runs deep, covering all age groups and demographics, including a virtual tie among Republicans and a significant plurality of independent voters.
Other stars who have appeared in the videos include Bill T. Jones, former New York City mayors David Dinkins and Ed Koch, current Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Whoopi Goldberg, Daphne Rubin-Vega and Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe.
