Mediaite is reporting via the Daily Mail that President Barack Obama's image is being used to advertise fried chicken in China. Really?
Actually, we are not surprised by the offensive advertising. We have seen it before, and we didn't have to go as far as China. Brooklyn, N.Y., is already home to an Obama Fried Chicken restaurant.
The Daily Mail speculates that in China, however, the "Obama Fried Chicken restaurant could be a response to the U.S. filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization about Chinese tariffs on American chicken exports." The paper cites a New York Times story that says the tariffs range from 50 to 100 percent, which means that some Chinese importers are paying up to twice the price for U.S. chicken.
Nonetheless, the independent company is not alone in deciding that the president is a great pitchman for its product, according to Mediaite: "The actual KFC has used the president in Chinese commercials, too."
