First lady Michelle Obama recorded a Memorial Day video message that was played at churches throughout the country this weekend.
In an address that reflected her ongoing efforts to encourage support for military families, she said, "You can rally your youth groups to serve these families. You can host programs to help families deal with the stresses of war. You can partner with an existing program or ministry that serves military families." She added that helping can be as simple as raking leaves, shoveling snow or offering to baby-sit for a military family with a loved one deployed. Watch here:
The Associated Presss reports that the first family's Memorial Day plans included a breakfast for families who have lost loved ones in combat and a visit to Arlington National Cemetery for a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns.
