Why the continuing fascination with natural hair, given that so many black women have been wearing it years? Salon owner Keneesha Hudson tells CNN that despite the growing number of women embracing their natural hair texture, it's still considered unique. She says her clients ask for a feel, and strangers still "sneak and touch it."
Actress Issa Rae, the star and creator of the popular Web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl — who says she's heard everything from "Eww, why is your hair like that? Why are you trying to go back to slavery?" — fields requests to finger hers from both blacks and whites.
We suppose that if people are going to continue to require a hands-on experience to understand something that's not really that out of the ordinary, asking for permission is a start.
