VH1 Soul has been given a new name, and eventually it’ll get a face-lift. As of Dec. 28, the channel became known as BET Soul, according to BET.
Fans of VH1 Soul flocked to the network because it showcased new and old-school R&B and soul music from an array of singers. You were able to catch performances from favorites such as Lauryn Hill and Mary J. Blige. BET doesn’t plan to change that aspect, but it will add more programming to the channel.
“Soul music has always been part of BET Network’s DNA, and we have the opportunity with BET Soul to expand our music content platform,” the network said in a statement. “VH1 Soul will continue to showcase R&B music on series, tentpole specials and VH1’s digital platforms."
As for new programming, the network will eventually announce new and exclusive music-themed content.
Currently, the channel has 20 million subscribers through cable companies such as AT&T U-verse, Cablevision, Cox, Charter, Mediacom, Time Warner Cable, Bright House and Verizon FiOS.
BET says the rebranding will enhance and support its expanding business.
