Carole Simpson, a veteran TV reporter, released her memoirs, NewsLady, in November. Simpson, who has more than 40 years of experience, has hosted NBC Nightly News and ABC's World News Tonight. As a rookie reporter in Chicago, she interviewed Martin Luther King Jr. while he was challenging then-Mayor Richard J. Daley on segregated housing.
Howard Kurtz, the Daily Beast's Washington-bureau chief, has written about Simpson's life story. But as Gawker points out, parts of his "otherwise decent" profile are inappropriate and invalid:
Two years later, a drunken NBC producer — the likely culprit for her earlier problems — told her at the Republican convention: "You think because you're black and you're a woman you can get anything you want. And you slut, you don't deserve it." Searing words that would affect anyone's outlook on life, and yet, Simpson has to admit that she has also benefited from affirmative action.
What? One of these things is not like the other.
