The University of Texas at San Antonio is about to give students a sip of Beyoncé's Lemonade in the form of an English course. On Thursday, UTSA announced the launch of “Black Women, Beyoncé and Pop Culture,” which will use the singer's most recent album as its foundation. The English course will focus the “theoretical, historical and literary frameworks of black feminism," according to the San Antonio Express-News.
The course will be taught by Kinitra D. Brooks, an assistant professor of African-American and Afro-Caribbean literature, and she gave some insight about the class.
“I have students contacting me and asking me questions about so many things—especially black feminism and theories of black womanhood,” Professor Brooks said on the UTSA website. “The course will be new, fun and exciting—but I expect my students to come in hungry for knowledge and open to new theories about race and gender in popular culture.”
Brooks' previous courses include “Black Women in Science Fictions, Fantasy, and Horror: the Supernatural in African-American Literature,” and she is also slated to teach a graduate course in Afrofuturism.
