When we tell y’all that we are trying, I don’t think y’all understand what that really means. This podcast is held together with shoestring and bubblegum. It’s not a joke when we call ourselves the Sanford and Son of podcasts, and as Ms. Patti LaDanielle, aka The Root’s social-content producer, Danielle Young, told me, “Yeah, but Fred still made dinner for Lamont.” The point is, just like poor Fred, we are trying, y’all, and the payoff for sticking with us is that when we blow up, we won’t forget any of you.
So, this week, we got the amazing Loretta Devine. I’m not kidding when I tell you that Ms. Patti-Patti loves her, so she is super excited whenever she gets to talk to her (I think this is her eighth time talking with her; stalker!) because for Ms. LaDanielle, Loretta Devine is her aunt.
But the podcast gods were not with us. They didn’t want to bless us with the audio clarity that this podcast deserved, but nevertheless, if you can get 10 minutes to bend the ear of Ms. Loretta Devine, guess what you do? You take it. So that’s what we did.
In the same episode, we also argue about the blackest male first name; why Ms. Patti-Patti insisted on getting us organized; #HurtBae; Mercedes Sprinter vans and why Tyrese has so many to sell on Instagram; why the Grammys hate Beyoncé; and Michael Flynn’s resignation as national security adviser to President Donald Trump.
Seriously, if you don’t watch the news, just listen to us, because we don’t watch the news, either, but we sound like we do, and you might learn something and impress your friends!
We love y’all, and we have some big news on the horizon, but we can’t say anything just yet.
