(The Root) — A Howard University graduate, comic actor Anthony Anderson seems like a logical choice to host the television broadcast of UNCF An Evening of Stars when it airs on local and national cable channels this weekend.

The program spotlights students from various HBCUs and other colleges and universities including Spelman, Wiley, Johnson C. Smith, Philander Smith, Claflin University, Talladega, CAU and Tuskegee. Deserving students will receive United Negro College Fund scholarships, with celebrities such as Usher, Chaka Khan, Steve Harvey and Kevin Hart presenting the awards. In addition to the presentations, Khan, Yolanda Adams, Keyshia Cole, Tyrese Gibson, Trey Songz, Melanie Fiona, Charlie Wilson, Eric Benet, Anthony Hamilton and Faith Evans will all perform some of their new and classic hit songs.

But the night is not just about the stars; it's really about youths and education. "This is about making people aware of the crisis in education and the fact that we must, as a community, not only be aware of this but we must be engaged in solving it," UNCF CEO Michael Lomax said. "We must activate and transform this crisis into an opportunity for young people."
