Umm ... Did North West Just Inspire Us to Try a Beauty Trend?

Maybe it’s the falling leaves or the onslaught of Halloween and its attendant pumpkins and color scheme, but we’ve had orange on the brain lately—and apparently, so has one five-year-old famously-parented fashionista known as North West.

However you feel about her parents, the eldest child of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West seems to be a pretty happy and adorable kid—and a style-savvy one at that. She’s only in kindergarten but has already decided she wants to be a makeup artist (which in Kardashian-Jenner speak means makeup mogul) and has been spotted more than once painting her little face.

Apparently, mom Kim has given up trying to stop North’s makeup craze—at least for Halloween—since the soon-to-be six-year-old was spotted out and about last weekend sporting a surprisingly tasteful swipe of orange eyeshadow to match her orange dress.

While we’re hoping this was strictly for a special occasion (though hey, to each parent her own, we guess), we have to admit we were into the look of orange eyeshadow, yes, even on five-year-old eyes—weird as that sounds, even to us. That said, the look has been trending for some time, though we’ve simply been too lazy to try it out, until now.

North’s whimsical pop of color is one way to wear the look. But from tangerine to rust, there is any number of ways to rock this hue on any number of skin tones. Because we just can’t resist the allure of creating some autumnal and age-appropriate eyes of our own, we did a little research to see how fully-grown beauties across the ‘gram are wearing them.

From soft and subtle to a strong statement, the orange eye is clearly workable on pretty much everyone, but if you’re not into the vivid pop of color, try a variation on this trend. A sure winner? The ombré-effect “sunset eye,” which gradates the hue from the inner to the outer corner of the eye ...

... Or try a coppery take, swiping the shimmer under and up around the inner corners of the eyes, for a dramatic effect...

... Or, our personal fave: instead of letting the lids get all the glory, go deep with a russet shade, focusing solely on the under-eye, and keeping the lids relatively clean with a neutral shade.

Needless to say, we’ll be trying out orange eyeshadow tomorrow on Halloween, when we can call it a costume if we simply can’t pull it off. As for North West, we’re sure this influencer-in-the-making will be onto a new trend of her own tomorrow. After all, it runs in the family.
