A Minnesota Uber driver is facing charges of false imprisonment after allegedly trying to take a minor back to his apartment against her will, KMSP reports.
On Aug. 4, authorities say Dahir Aden picked up the female victim in north Minneapolis, then drove to pick up her friend, whom he dropped off at his job in Minneapolis.
According to officials, the victim then asked the 50-year-old Aden to drive her home, but Aden refused and started driving on the highway. The victim asked Aden where they were going, and authorities say he told her he was taking her back to his apartment in West Saint Paul, Minn., to have sex with her, telling her not to tell anyone.
The victim told Aden that she did not want to go to his apartment and to take her home, but Aden again refused, according to the report. During the ride, the victim sent text messages to her friend to call the police. When they pulled up to Aden's apartment, he told the victim to "go inside, go inside quick to have sex," authorities say.
The victim again told Aden, "No," and then got out of the car.
"Come on now, we are running out of time. Let's just go have sex," Aden continued to insist, according to the report. Aden then told the victim to hang up her phone and tried to take it from her, but the victim was able to escape, officials say.
Officers soon arrived at the scene and asked Aden how he knew the victim. Police say that Aden told them that the victim was his girlfriend, before later admitting that she was not. Aden told officers that he was just giving the girl a ride home to Minneapolis, causing officers to ask him why he was in West Saint Paul if the girl was on her way to Minneapolis.
An officer discovered a large number of condoms in Aden's possession, officials say.
Aden faces up to three years in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000.
