The United States has withdrawn its bid to host the 2018 World Cup soccer tournament. The USA Bid Committee will concentrate on trying to land the 2022 tournament. With the U.S. withdrawing, four European candidates now remain in the race for 2018: Belgium/Netherlands, England, Russia and Spain/Portugal. FIFA, the tournament's governing body, has indicated that the competition cannot be held on the same continent on two successive occasions. Therefore, the 2022 campaign will now be between Australia, Japan, Korea Republic, Qatar and the United States. Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium and FedEx Field are two of the proposed venues included in the 2022 bid. Hosting a major, international sports event like the World Cup on U.S. soil would be pretty awesome. Let's see if it happens.
